UTORweb provides free, personal web space to students, faculty, and staff. Full details are available on the UTORweb website.

Below are instructions for uploading files from Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 applications using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). FTP is the only supported protocol for UTORweb.

PLEASE NOTE: FTP is an unsecured protocol. This means that any data sent, including your UTORid password, may be intercepted and viewed by third parties

Open the Save As Window

Office 2003

  1. Go to File > Save As

Office 2007

  1. Click the Office button and mouse over Save As.
  2. In the right panel of the Office menu select your preferred file format.

Add an FTP location

  1. Click to expand the Save in drop-down list.
  2. At the very bottom, click Add/Modify FTP Locations.
  3. Switch the Log on as option from Anonymous to User.
  4. Input the following information:
  • Name of the FTP site: individual.utoronto.ca
  • User: (your UTORid)
  • Password: (your UTORid password)
  • Click Add.
  • Click Ok.
  • In the Save As window there will be a folder labelled ftp://individual.utoronto.ca listed under FTP Locations. This FTP folder will be saved and remain accessible from all MS Office applications on that computer. However, you will be prompted for your UTORid password when you open the FTP folder for the first time after starting the application.
  • Your UTORweb account supports two access controls, Public and Private.
    • If a document is saved in the “private” folder which appears in the main folder of your account (i.e. the screen you see when you first connect to your account), it will only be accessible when you log in with your UTORid and password
    • Anything saved outside of the private folder will be publicly accessible from the URL http://individual.utoronto.ca/Your UTORweb Space Name/Filename
  • When entering the file name you must ensure that it contains only letter, numbers, underscores, and dashes (i.e. no spaces). Otherwise, you will see various errors when saving the file.
  • Please note, it is not possible to connect to two different people’s UTORweb accounts simultaneously. This is because they both use individual.utoronto.ca as the address. To connect to a second account, remove the current FTP location (see below).

    Removing an FTP location

    1. Open the Save As window (see procedure above).
    2. Click to expand the Save in: drop down list.
    3. At the very bottom, click Add/Modify FTP Locations.
    4. In the listing for FTP sites: click the listing for individual.utoronto.ca.
    5. Click Remove, then OK, then Cancel.
